Question on poverty line – how, as a policy maker I would distribute funds among few groups of people having different monthly incomes. Given the poverty line of the region, I was asked what would be my approach – distribute funds equally among all the groups or implement some other method of distribution. The prof also defined a metric called the Headcount ratio. My answer was to target groups which have income close to the poverty line in order to decrease the headcount ratio but that was a wrong approach as per the prof. (the only question by ISI prof) |

Q4. How do u find the roots of polynomial equation numerically ? He gave me hint that u have studied in engineering but I am unable to recall. PANELIST 3: ISI professor -> asked vague STATISTICS. Q5. We have used histogram to check and analysing the variability of data. What is one drawback we see in histogram. Q6.(This question is very absurd i don’t understand) Y= f(x) and Y = F (X) where x is random variable let f(x)follow exponential distribution …what can u conclude about F(X) , he said u know the difference in X and x right. ISI professor giving question by reading a book and his voice is not at all clear . I made him repeat the question three times. He wait for just 30 second not giving any hint and said ok I am done. |

What’s the difference between Hessian and Jacobian? (Explained that Hessian is used to get an idea about the maxima and minima while Jacobian is used while transforming coordinate axis) Where do you use them? If I say one of them contains first order partial derivatives of vector valued function what will it be? (I said Jacobian. He asked if I’m sure, then I said both contains first order partial derivatives. Then he said one of them has partial derivatives of scalar valued function and one has partial derivatives of vector valued function) In simulations, we use Euler’s method 1, Kutta 2, Kutta 4.. what’s the difference? (I said these are used for numerical integration.. he said *that’s not it*.. they have something to do with the time factor.) After that, he said to other profs, we have asked him enough questions.. they agreed and they said I may leave. |
